According to one poster on the Outpost Gallifrey forum Doctor Who's former script editor Andrew Cartmel is set to write an episode of Torchwood. User Blake comments: "Andrew Cartmel gave a lecture to our Screenwriters class yesterday (31st Oct) and revealed he is currently writing an episode for S2 of Torchwood. He didn't give any other details (obviously) but I thought I'd get the ball rolling for discussion of his impending episode here..."
Cartmel oversaw the tailend of 1980's Doctor Who, script editing such serials as "Remembrance of the Daleks", "The Curse of Fenric" and the final classic series adventure "Survival". He famously developed a "Cartmel Masterplan" for the series - which attempted to return a little mystery and enigma to the character of the Doctor...
But all we really got was Sylvestor McCoy rolling his r's.
It was rumoured a while back that Cartmel would be returning to the Who universe sometime over the next year, but this latest 'rumour' hasn't been confirmed by anybody in the Torchwood's "official circle". It's not clear - if true - if Cartmel's script will be part of the second series, or the proposed third year. More news when we get it.
Elsewhere and the lovely (!) Sci-Fi Now Magazine has reviewed Torchwood's complete series one DVD boxset -giving it a lowly two out of five stars, citing that the series is even less exciting when viewed back to back. The magazine, only six months old, already has a reputation for looking down upon Doctor Who and its spin-offs. And this review doesn't help to convince otherwise.

This sci-fi conference at the University of Glamorgan has Andrew Cartmel on its list of speakers, and lists Torchwood among his writing credits. Do they know something we don't?
