Ratings Are Everything!

The ratings are in for episode three. They're not bad, but there's been a significant drop-off following last week's opening episodes. Ghost Machine scored 1.55m and a 10.3% audience share. The BBC's one-off Royale Family Special, "The Queen of Sheba" not only made this writer cry, but scored a rating of 7.8 Million. Top shows for the evening were Coronation Street and Heartbeat (snore!) which both scored well over 8 million viewers each.

For anybody who may have missed the show first time around, Torchwood episode three is repeated this Wednesday at 9pm, or at various times across BBC Three this week.

So, you've no excuse not to watch!

It was a hard night with lots of other stuff on. I wouldn't expect any show to keep the same ratings as it did in the first week. Some people may have just tuned in to see what it was like. Maybe a few parents watched it on the first week to see if it was suitable, the decided it wasn't. Loads of reasons why it dropped. Although its still extremely high with most sky shows rarely reach over 1 million, so it's doing brilliantly.

i've spoken to quite a few people who watched the first or second episode but weren't interested... but it's still the best programme on!

The 3rd episode was broadcasted at 10PM where as the 1st and 2nd episode's run started at 9PM. I think 10PM on a Sunday is a ridiculous time for the show, what with the majority of possible viewers going to work the next day.

Also shows are always going to lose a share of the initial curious viewers who have decided it is not for them.

I agree, Sunday at 10pm is a bit late for me with school the next day, and I assume a lot of people had the same issue and what with the Royale Family being on as a special one-off, it was bound to loose a few people...
but hopefully they will all catch up tommorow!

I'm hopeful the ratings will remain stronger for the showing in BBC2 - it's a more mainstream channel than BBC3, and the show's is in a better slot.

Was I the only one who recognised Nigel Kneale's 1972 classic "The Stone Tape" in Ghost Machine? Nice twist, though, adding a bit of quantum and making it work forwards as well as backwards in time. Hope we're not going to get too much of this: "Oh, it's too dangerous to ever use, let's lock it up, never to be seen again."

Looking forward to Seven of Nine ;-)

I am sick of people who think it is cool to deride Heartbeat which they assume is twee or boring because it is set in the '60s. It's not, it can be really engrossing at times and it has good music.

Anyway yeah, I am not too worried about the drop as it is still doing well. It's a shame that it had to lose out to the Royale Family though, I never understood the humour of that show, you can only laugh at them being slobs for so long it gets a bit tired.

To be completely honest I didn't watch it at 10pm because my Mother was watching something else - an ITV original drama I think - so I watched the 12.20 repeat.

I didn't enjoy episode 2 very much - if others felt the same this could have put them off watching the next one. I loved episode 3, and am sad that the Royle Family got such good ratings :(
Time slot also has something to do with it I'm sure. Anyway, I'm loving the show.
Long live Captain Jack!
