Briers' Bath Time

Another amusing story from today's teletext, reported by the service's daily "showbiz spy", which involves forthcoming guest artist Richard Briers, who became lodged in a bath tub whilst staying in a Norfolk hotel. No, really, you couldn't make this sort of thing up...

"The Good Life star Richard Briers had to be rescued when he got stuck in a Norfolk hotel bath, I learn. His actress pal Phyllida Law tells me: 'He was staying in the same hotel as me and he got wedged in an old-fashioned, long iron bath. He got well and truly stuck at the tap end. They got him out but he wasn't at all embarrassed. He's wonderful.'"

Briers is best known for playing the infamous Tom Good in the hit BBC series "The Good Life" between 1975 and 1978. He also appeared in 1980's Doctor Who, alongside Sylvestor McCoy in "Paradise Towers". He played the Chief Caretaker, who raised an array of demonic cleaning machines (again with the not-making-this-up) before they turned on him and gobbled him up.

He appears in Torchwood series two playing a 90 year old who is slowly dying. He's scared, and doesn't want to die - but what to do? Does he die gracefully, or try to find some sort of elixir for life? Naturally, this is Torchwood, so it'd be a little boring if he just chose to die...

Hopefully it'll take more than an iron bathtub to stop this character...
