Bang Bang Boom!

Now, that was explosive...

So, Torchwood has blasted back onto our screens at last. Hooray, it's been worth the wait! One of the things I noticed about this opening episode is just how mature it feels. Every season the show grows up that little bit more, and it's working in its favour. Back in 2006 we had brash episodes about sex-addicted aliens, and now instead we have quieter moments with the team and a general intelligence injected into the scripts.

In other words, based off what I've seen so far, I approve of Children of Earth!

What did you make of the episode? Reactions in the comments section below!

Catch a trailer for Day Two at the BBCi site (plus an interview with Eve Myles).

Meanwhile, a couple of interviews with the show's cast that ran earlier today:

Eve Myles and Gareth David-Lloyd on BBC Breakfast.

John Barrowman on his favourite chat show, Loose Women.

As ever, if you're new to the site, welcome! Hope you feel at home here, and within the Torchwood community as a whole.

I was quite disappointed by the episode really, which is a shame because I'm a diehard Torchwood fan. I thought the episode lost some of what it meant to be Torchwood, it felt more like Doctor Who meets James Bond. There was too much violence and gore, not enough wit and banter and a storyline that so far doesn't seem to live up to the hype. Saying that, RTD has got 4 more days to prove me wrong, and I hope to God I'll regret writing this on Friday! :D

I loved it. Though I have avoided all trailers, switch channels at the end of the episode, I hate previews... But it was pretty good. Shame they killed Rupesh! I was liking the guy!
Bring on tomorrow!

Funny, I'm the opposite of Madelaine. Although I wanted to like Torchwood because I'm a JB fan, it never had that magic for me. So I wasn't expecting much and was pleasantly surprised by the first episode. I agree about the dialogue though, the only thing that made me laugh was "wos occurrin?"

There was enough storyline for me, it certainly left me wanting more and cursing the fact I have to wait 24 hours for the next bit. Unlike with most Torchwood episodes, it didn't drag on and on interminably.

i thought the episode was great and with an opening episode like that i cannot wait for the next few episodes. my only problem was "we are coming" got really annoying by the end of the episode

Im not the biggest fan but I do love torchwood its great I only found out it was starting back up when i switched channels. I think there is a good storyline which is done amazingly. I like the fact the jack and Ianto are actually starting to face the fact that there is chemistry :) but i think that Dr.Rupesh Patanjali might still be alive and get together with Jack. Just because i think i saw chemistry and there both really attractive. But i cant wait for tomorrows episode its gonna be great! really bumed its only a five parter thou :( does that mean its the last in the series ever????????

IS IT TOMORROW NIGHT YET?

Seriously, I loved it SO MUCH. Explosions, and gore, and humor, and banter, and creepy aliens, and a likeable good guy who ends being evil, and Gwen saying "morning!" to the adorable picture of Tosh and Owen (not going to cry, not going to cry), and an explanation of how Torchwood employees actually get paid, and Ianto family members and Jack family members, and MARTHA JONES GOT MARRIED YOU GO GIRL CONTINUE BEING AWESOME, Rhys driving a lorry, and finally some meaningful dialogue and discussion between Jack and Ianto about "them", and a totally OMGWTF ending.

And the last line totally freaked me out but in a delicious "oh god I am so excited" kind of way.

(Sidenote: Is Gwen's pregancy art imitating life, or life imitating art?)

Loved it! :D And I totally disagree with madelaine- it was exactly what you would expect from Torchwood! Banter, insider bits for original fans (tosh/owen photo, Martha and Tom on their honeymoon, and from trailers for other days I can see there is more of that to come), a bit of sex on the side (common' JANTO, violence, a decent ploline with good yet predictable twists- all very torchwood, all very RTD, and all very good!!! Can't wait till today's episode!! :D xxx

Disappointed: the dialogue lost its edge. Not enough swearing or sex - read naughtiness.

What happened to the rakish Captain?

Weak, long drawn, predictable and boring start.

As the first poster commented, I hope to be proved wrong tonight and totally regret this post by Friday :)

I too am a huge fan of Captain Jack.
I made it an event, inviting friends and first time viewers to watch with me.
I was let down and don't expect my mates to return tonight. Sad as I trust it will improve dramatically. (excuse the pun)

i thought it was a great episode as a whole. The beginning and end [arts were the best, with a cliff hanger, although the middle part was not as strong as i lost interest and cold not follow the story as out of nowhere jack and ianto both have families, with no references to this before at all.
