Torchwood's 10th Birthday

Happy birthday to us!

It all started with this announcement. The BBC had commissioned a spin-off to Doctor Who, set to star John Barrowman as Captain Jack Harkness.

The official BBCi Doctor Who site teased - "Prepare for a new word order". Afterwards the traditional Doctor Who logo transformed into something new... A single word: the title of this new series.

Within hours, TORCHWOOD.tv had launched.

The site was created by Aaron Kurlychek, and in the early days (i.e. before there was any actual production news to report) it was his wit and commentary that kept things afloat. Go back to our 2005 and early 2006 archives to see for yourself!

I joined in March 2006, around the time that production started on the first series. It was terribly exciting, especially as we attracted our own moles within the crew of the show. They would divulge numerous facts, that weren't yet public knowledge:

Eventually the show went out, and TORCHWOOD.tv got incredibly popular - with 10,000 hits a day during our series one height. For those around at the time, you might remember the "Torchwood Chat" function, where us fans would gather post-episodes to discuss the latest happenings. It was a great time to be a Woodie!

As series two and Children of Earth passed by, new writers joined the site (and various others, myself included, departed) but TORCHWOOD.tv continued to do what it did well - reporting all the latest news surrounding the series.

After a four year hiatus (we practically skipped the Miracle Day era) the site is back, and ready to celebrate its tenth birthday.

So here we are then. 10 years older. Maybe wiser. But, more importantly, still standing!!

UPDATE: 19/10/15 - Big Finish have now released Fall to Earth, starring Gareth David-Lloyd.
