GDL Bulletin
As we await more news from the Big Finish team...
Some Gareth David-Lloyd news!
On Thursday, the star visited the Isolation Box at Cardiff's St. David's shopping centre. Created by Macmillan Cancer Support, the box includes a set of headphones playing a loop of cancer patients discussing their stories, and makes for a very emotional visit. You can show your support to the cause by donating to Macmillan.
Elsewhere, Gareth will be appearing in a Raucous theatre production - The Stick House. It runs at Bristol's The Lo-co Klub from 11th September to 17th October (previews from 7th September).
His new film is called I Am Alone plays HorrorHound weekend in Indianapolis 11th-13th September, the Somerset Film Festival on October 30th, the UK Horror Film Festival October 29th-31st and has seen Gareth nominated as Best Actor at the 2015 Scare-a-con Film Festival.

Try To Keep Up, TORCHWOOD.tv...
In what's hardly 'breaking news' (the story was first published mid-July) Gareth David-Lloyd has spoken to the Radio Times website about Big Finish's new Torchwood series.
The full feature is here, but some highlights below:
Gareth David-Lloyd states: "The series is linked - it's about the same event, the same story but the team have split up... It's not ghost Ianto... It's during the time frame the first two series were set."
He doesn't confirm which other Torchwood stars may be making a return in later instalments of the series, mind.

It's now been confirmed that Gareth David-Lloyd will be returning to the role of Ianto Jones, for Big Finish's upcoming Torchwood revival. For somewhat obvious reasons, this massively hints that the series will indeed take place prior to the events of Children of Earth and Miracle Day.

Girl Number 9
Gareth David-Lloyd (Torchwood), Joe Absolom (Doc Martin, Personal Affairs), and Tracy-Ann Oberman (Doctor Who, Eastenders) star in a upcoming new webseries written by James Moran (Doctor Who, Torchwood, Severance), Girl Number 9.
SYNOPSIS
Vincent Boylan (Joe Absolom) has just been arrested, suspected of being behind the brutal murder of seven girls, but the team only have a limited time to get a confession. If they can't make him talk, he could slip through their fingers. Detective Matheson (Gareth David-Lloyd), who is leading the investigation, is sent to try and get some answers. But things soon take a horrifying turn for the worse, as Matheson and his boss Lyndon (Tracy-Ann Oberman) find out that all is not as it seems. The mystery deepens as everyone is drawn into Boylan's sick mind games, and each twist-packed episode ends on a tantalizing cliffhanger, making every installment a must-see.
Girl Number 9 is a dark thriller created exclusively for the internet in six 5-minute episodes. Production began on 09/09/09. The show premiers on October 30, 2009 at 9pm. SYNOPSIS
Vincent Boylan (Joe Absolom) has just been arrested, suspected of being behind the brutal murder of seven girls, but the team only have a limited time to get a confession. If they can't make him talk, he could slip through their fingers. Detective Matheson (Gareth David-Lloyd), who is leading the investigation, is sent to try and get some answers. But things soon take a horrifying turn for the worse, as Matheson and his boss Lyndon (Tracy-Ann Oberman) find out that all is not as it seems. The mystery deepens as everyone is drawn into Boylan's sick mind games, and each twist-packed episode ends on a tantalizing cliffhanger, making every installment a must-see.
Girl Number 9 is a dark thriller created exclusively for the internet in six 5-minute episodes. Production began on 09/09/09. The show premiers on October 30, 2009 at 9pm. Bang Bang Boom!
Now, that was explosive...
So, Torchwood has blasted back onto our screens at last. Hooray, it's been worth the wait! One of the things I noticed about this opening episode is just how mature it feels. Every season the show grows up that little bit more, and it's working in its favour. Back in 2006 we had brash episodes about sex-addicted aliens, and now instead we have quieter moments with the team and a general intelligence injected into the scripts.
In other words, based off what I've seen so far, I approve of Children of Earth!

Torchsong Nearly Silenced
Talk about a sting of bad luck. Word from both John Barrowman and Kai Owen's newsgroups have confirmed that they will be unable to attend the upcoming Torchsong convention happening this weekend in the US. John has suffered a harsh ankle injury and is unable to fly. Kai is unavailable for personal reasons. This is understandably a disappointment to both the actors and the fans that are planning to be in attendance. John is going to try and do a video link with the convention and he is very disappointed that he can't make it. The Torchsong website is currently unavailable, no doubt because they are reformatting it to address the changes that have just come up, but their email addresses are fully functional:

In case anyone attending has a question or concern. I'm currently waiting to hear if they have an official statement on the matter and if they do I'll be sure to post it for you all.

Ianto spills the (coffee) beans?!
Gareth David-Lloyd was a guest at Vortex, a one-day Who convention held in Belfast this past weekend, and he let slip a few more details about CoE.
One fan's report revealed: "Gareth David-Lloyd was a great presence, he kept a tight lid on the upcoming Torchwood: Children of Earth, but did reveal that we would find out much more about Ianto's past, such as meeting his family, and discovering the reasons he tore apart from them." But that's not all he said! As many fans have also reported, Gareth told the gathered crowd that CoE would air in the second week in June.
In addition, UK channel Watch has issued a press release stating they will re-run Torchwood's first series starting an hour after each new CoE episode airs, kicking off Monday, 15th June (from here).
Come on, BBC! Stop with the secrecy already, and make the official announcement confirming what we've already guessed. We promise we'll act surprised when you tell us...!

A little bit of everything!
Congratulations to Kai Owen and his fiance Sarah! According to Kai’s yahoo group, the couple are expecting a baby this coming October. Kai is obviously thrilled and said he’s "over the moon and looking forward to being a Daddy!!!" Good news such as this certainly inclines fans to send cards and presents, and one of the best presents you can give to Kai is a donation on his Just Giving page.
Gareth David-Lloyd has been announced for some upcoming conventions. On May 3rd, Gareth is going to be at Vortex, the one-day Doctor Who/Sarah Jane Adventures/Torchwood convention in Belfast. Check it out. It sounds like great fun for the kids!

Marathon Man
At the recent the Hub 2 convention Kai Owen revealed that he will be running this year's London Marathon, and he's looking to YOU for support. His aim is to raise at least £2000 for his chosen charity, CLIC Sargent (the Cancer & Leukemia In Children charity).
As Kai himself explains, "... As you may know I am running the London marathon on the 26th April this year. It's for a wonderful charity called CLIC Sargent, they care for children living with cancer. It's a charity that's very close to my heart, my beautiful cousin Michaela has undergone 9 operations to remove tumours from her brain. She is an absolute superstar and is so brave and inspirational, I love Michaela and with the help of CLIC Sargent Michaela continues to live a wonderful life with her wonderful family. CLIC is an amazing charity and I hope to raise a nice sum of money to help them continue their phenomenal work."

During his March '09 online Q&A session, Gareth David-Lloyd confirms that he records the latest Torchwood audio book - "The Sin Eaters" by series script editor Brian Minchin - on Monday 31st March. This will be followed at a later date when he joins the rest of the cast for three follow-up dramas to last year's "Lost Souls".
(Incidentally GDL also talks about HBO's incredible tour de force The Wire, which starts tomorrow night - for the benefit of British readers - on BBC Two at 11:20pm. Don't miss it if you haven't already seen the show)

The Devil and the Deep Blues
So you all know by now that John Barrowman can sing, but what some of you may not know is that (among other Torchwood cast members) Gareth David-Lloyd has a fair set of pipes on him as well. His band is called Blue Gillespie. Alongside him are Anthony Clark on guitar, Rhys Bryant on bass and Nick Harrison on drums.

Friendly Cardiff .VS. Big Old Nasty London
I've just read this short interview from the latest member of the Innuendo Squad, Ianto, aka Mister Gareth David-Lloyd. (Thanks to our friends at The Institute for this lead). You can hear what he has to say below (and if Gareth's reading, congratulations on the casting young man!) :
He learned his acting craft in Gwent but now Gareth David-Lloyd’s talents are going intergalactic.
Gareth, 25, from Bettws, has landed the role of a lifetime a major part in the new Dr Who spin-off series Torchwood.
He is to play Ianto, the receptionist at the Cardiff branch of Torchwood a government agency searching for alien technology which has fallen to Earth.
He will be filming for six months on the show, which is set in modern-day Cardiff. This is the first major role for the Newport actor, who went to Bettws Comprehensive and Coleg Gwent, Cross Keys.
“I’m really excited,” he said. “This is going to be different to anything else I’ve done before.”
It was at Monnow Junior School in Bettws that Gareth had his first acting role playing a robot in the school play. He then had acting lessons at Risca Leisure Centre before joining the Dolman Youth Theatre and Gwent Young People’s Theatre, where Argus reviewers marked him out as a star of the future.
He moved to London to pursue his career three years ago, with roles in Absolute Power, with Stephen Fry, and a BBC2 documentary drama on the life of Beethoven.
But Gareth is pleased his new role will be based in Cardiff, “I can’t wait to move back to South Wales, people are just much friendlier,” he said. “London was getting a bit fast for me.”
He was encouraged in acting by his aunt, 80-year-old Doris Leaves, with whom he lived on Allt-yr-yn Crescent from the age of nine.
Mrs Leaves said: “He got out of breath when he played football so I told him he needed a hobby. It has all sprung from there really.”
Former Labour leader Neil Kinnock, now Lord Kinnock, became a fan after seeing Gareth performing at Monmouth Castle. When Gareth decided to pursue a career in acting Lord Kinnock sent £250 to help him on his way.
Filming started on Torchwood last month and Gareth will be on set from May 24. His character will be introduced with a small part in the first episode, before featuring in all 13-parts of the drama series.
Gareth says there will be plenty of surprises for Doctor Who fans in the series, “I can’t say too much but the scripts look really good. I can’t wait to get started.”
In other news, last night's Doctor Who episode over here in the UK, "Rise of the Cybermen" featured two short Torchwood references made at the expense of the Cybus Corporation. One reference saw a news item on Rose's mobile phone talk about the latest Torchwood Institute happenings, whilst another saw returning face Pete Tyler talk to "Stevie"; an old friend of his, who seemingly works at Torchwood.
The fact that this episode - and next week's too - takes place on a parallel world may dampen the relevence of these references to the over-all story arc. But we'll see. It seems Torchwood is building momentum rather rapidly now.
Torchwood's coming folks. Brace yourselves.

Torchwood news is coming fast and furious, and hard for me to keep up, what with my own crazy schedule. Thanks to everybody who is helping out.

It was announced today that Gareth David-Lloyd of Bettws, Wales will be Ianto, Torchwood's receptionist. I was hoping for that gig myself, since my typing speed is quite fast, but apparently I don't have a nice enough bum to work for the Institute.
