Fans clamour for show's return

The Radio Times recently asked readers to vote whether they would like to see Torchwood return to TV, or not. An impressive 97% of those polled stated a desire to see it back - and they're not alone.

John Barrowman has been vlogging from his own bedroom, as he works his way through a re-watch of the show's first season. He's clearly loving every minute of it, but regrets that the show ended when it, feeling it had plenty more life left in it.

Let's not pretend that Miracle Day was anything other a misfire, and as great as Big Finish are it's just not the same on audio. So come on BBC/BBC America/Netflix and/or Amazon. Give us fans a break - and bring old Jack back for more!

John says in one of his videos ". . . I’m going to watch episode one — I’m going back and I’m watching Torchwood. And there’s a reason why [wink] which I’ll tell ya when I can."

So, there's some hope at least.

Add in Eve Myles' comments recently that she's quitting the role of Torchwood... Could discussions have taken place regarding the future of the show, that involve John but didn't involve Eve? (Hence Eve's unexpected social media outburst) I guess we'll find out soon enough.

Myles to go?

Has Eve Myles really quit playing the role of Gwen Cooper?

Reports last month suggested she had, after the actress posted a number of tweets stating as much.

Since then Eve has remained pretty quiet about the whole thing. It leaves me to wonder, however, exactly what she means. Has she ended her association with Torchwood completely (i.e. no more TV, Big Finish, etc.) - or is she merely suggesting that, five years on from her last appearance in Miracle Day, Eve no longer wants to play the role of Eve in a live-action capacity, but is willing to continue with the Big Finsh audios?

At the moment, it looks like the first option is more likely, which is a shame. Big Finish has a great reputation amongst its actors - Hell, they even managed to lure Tom Baker back! If Eve *has* quit them (which we don't know for certain)... did something happen behind the scenes?

Beautiful Rumors

According to numerous fan postings around the internet, John Barrowman has said that Torchwood series four is on the way with a full 13 episode season! The actor, who plays Captain Jack, insisted it'll be bigger and better than ever. The good news came out this weekend at Collectormania and was reiterated by Kai Owen's official web group shortly thereafter. Other speculations say that production is slated to begin some time in January. The BBC has not made any official statements on the matter at this time, but in the past they've been the last ones to share the good (or bad) news anyway.

Times are looking good for us Woodies. So I wonder what you readers would love to see in series four. What is top on your Torchwood Christmas wish list?

Is Torchwood Getting A Check-Up?

Another entry for our unsubstantiated rumour department: Some fans are claiming to have recently seen the Torchwood cast filming scenes for the 2009 Doctor Who specials.

No definitive set reports or photographs have surfaced as of yet, so this possible "spoiler" should be taken with more than a grain of salt.

A starting point for these claims may have been last Saturday's "Jonathan Ross Show" on BBC Radio 2. As jackharkness posted last week, David Tennant and Catherine Tate filled in as hosts for the program, with John Barrowman as their special guest. The three actors obviously enjoyed their time together, and at one point made reference to a discussion they had been having "the other day".

Could this be a clue that we may soon see the Hub dwellers getting a check-up from the Doctor? Or was that innocent remark only more grist for the rumour mill?

EDIT: After a little more dirt-digging... yup, this is entirely false. In the words of the Tenth Doctor, "I'm sorry, I'm so sorry." Guess I lived up to my username after all?

Ghost Watch

Doctor Who Magazine # 370 is released in newsagents across the UK tomorrow, but I've managed to grab a sneak peak, and found some very interesting Torchwood news inside.

As well as commenting upon the casting of Burn Gorman and Naoko Mori, the magazine also exclusively reveals the director of the second block of filming on Torchwood (which consists of just two episodes). This particular block will be completed by Colin Teague, a director who has already headed up some notable episodes of Holby City (along with producer Richard Stokes). We wish Colin all the luck in the world, and here's hoping he produces some incredible episodes!

Colin's two episodes will not contain Noel Clarke's episode like previously thought. Instead, block two will contain a script by Toby Whithouse (Doctor Who - "School Reunion"), as well as script editor Helen Raynor's story, which has the working title of "The Ghost Machine". Now that's what I call an excellent episode title!

EPISODE ONE - "Flotsam and Jetsam"

Jack Harkness has returned from the far future, to modern day Cardiff where he's found a job working amongst Torchwood, an ultra secret military organisation. Jack believes that by staying near to the 'Rift' the Doctor will return one day and find him. Whilst investigating some alien gangsters (supposidly) he meets a police woman called Gwen Cooper, and soon Gwen has become part of Torchwood itself, replacing a former Torchwood operative named Suzie who has since gone rogue.

EPISODE TWO - "Dark Revelations (tbc)"
Written by: Chris Chibnall, Directed by: Brian Kelly
Current rumours suggest that during this episode Gwen Cooper's boyfriend learns the secret of Torchwood, and is taken over by a great evil. During the course of the episode Gwen learns exactly what it means to work for a top secret co-government agency.

No details currently available. Bah!

EPISODE FOUR (?)- "tbc"

Noel appeared on GMTV last week and revealled that his episode is currently sheduled to be episode four of Torchwood. For now we'll continue to place the episode here. No specific details are yet available.

EPISODE FIVE (?) - "The Ghost Machine"
Written by: Helen Raynor, Directed by: Colin Teague
Thing's go bump in the night, but that's all I'm saying. The clue's in the name.

EPISODE SIX (?)- "Small World"
Written by: PJ Hammond, Directed by: (block three)
Gwen is still feeling her way in to the world of Torchwood, which she has just joined. This episode revolves around some "malevolent fairies". Hammond confirms in Dreamwatch magazine that the episode is no longer the third of the series.

And a quick note for fact fans: the first cast readthrough for Torchwood was Wednesday 26th April 2006, with actual filming commencing on Monday May 1st 2006. The first few weeks of filming were location shots as the team continue to settle into their new studio "Camelot".

The fifth wheel?

So who is the mysterious fifth member of the Torchwood team? Well read on if you would like a recap of the speculations that have been circulating. It relates to the finale of WHO.

Tracy-Ann Oberman of Eastenders fame will play a villian named Yvonne Hartman in the final two episodes of WHO this season. Elements of these episodes will lead right into the Torchwood series. In the Express newspaper last month Oberman said she will be playing the head of the Torchwood Institute. The speculation is that she will be in charge of a London-based Torchwood who has gone a bit astray, in league with the Cybermen and such.

None of the location reports last week spotted Oberman, so it might be a case of her exit/death leaving a spot for Jack to come in and head up a new reformed Torchwood Institute now based in Cardiff. If you are in Cardiff it looks like you will have a few chances to see the team on the streets in their range rover and look for more clues this week. A few shooting spots that have been mentioned are at the The Hayes, City Centre on Monday and then wednesday evening in the Pen and Wig pub.

No Torchwood references in The Girl in the Fireplace. The commentary features the writer of the episode Steven Moffat and Torchwood writer Noel Clarke, who is now better known as The Tin Dog.

The Rumour Mill

A forum member on Outpost Gallifrey claims to have some important news on Torchwood. The person has no specific source, or no real proof of what he's saying, so I suggest that readers take his 'news' with a pince of salt:

SARAH-JANE SMITH - FRIEND OF TORCHWOOD?

+ The episode Flotsam and Jetsam (dreadful title!) contains two gangland leaders who are infact aliens from the 51st Century. Jack has had previous dealings with the pair during his days as a time agent.

+ Episode two is apparently titled "Dark Revelations" and features Gwen's boyfriend, who is seemingly taken over by a great evil.

+ Sarah-Jane Smith stars in a number of episodes, as a reaccuring character. This story at least has a little truth in it. In a recent interview, Elisabeth Sladen revealled that plans are afoot for Sarah's return...but then she went on to comment that it wouldn't be a return to Doctor Who. Go Sarah-Jane!

I doubt any of these rumours will come to fruitition, but if they do, remember where you heard the news first! Until next time guys...

Torchisodes Coming

Well it's a better name than Tardisode anyway. According to somebody in the OG forums, Torchwood will get the same treatment as Doctor Who with minute-long weekly previews that you can watch on the web or on your cell phone as the show airs. They will also be wrtten by Gareth Roberts. This has not yet been confirmed by anybody else.

Don't miss WHO tomorrow night for lots of clues on the origins of Torchwood in the new episode Tooth and Claw. (As if anybody bothering to read this page would normally be watching snooker saturday nights) It's bound to be an improvement on New Earth, after all you can't go wrong when you put Queen Victoria together with a werewolf and flying Shaolin warriors. Throw in her servant John Brown and you have a classic.

Jack won't go into church

What was reported yesterday has been confirmed today in issue #363 of Doctor Who Magazine. Rumours in the tabloids that Charlotte Church would star in Torchwood were just that, rumours. Also in the interview Russell T Davies mentioned a new Torchwood character named "Gwen." So of course the new rumours will now start. If it's not Charlotte, who will be the female lead in the show? umm . . . maybe what's her name? something Stefani?

Russell also said that Torchwood would have a separate budget from WHO and not drain any of its resources despite sharing some of the same production base. Also, James Hawes is on as a producer and Doctor Who production designer Edward Thomas will have the same job on Torchwood.

So, Torchwood.TV bids a fond farewell to Charlotte Church, gossip about her really helped me get through these first few weeks of starting up the page. Well at least now she will have more time to work on her book.
