This weeks edition of the 'Radio Times' over here in the UK (dated June 3rd - June 9th) contains the usual Doctor Who suppliment - as well as a free pack of stickers!

Torchwood And The Fiction Of Fans
Forgive me for that very Babylon 5 blog title. Anyway, with little to no Torchwood news to discuss (bar a short interview on sci-fi wire which can be found here) I thought that I'd invest in some useless conversation, specifically on the subject of fan fiction.
Recently I commented upon the birth of Torchwood's fan community. One aspect of such a community is the ever growing number of fan fiction sites. And Torchwood's no different. However, very few websites have any solid Torchwood fanfic pages. Mostly the sites have Captain Jack tales from his time aboard the TARDIS. Believe it or not there's not much fan fiction relating to Jack's missing two years.
But there are always exceptions. Below is a short list of some of the sites I've found that talk about Jack's past in very innovative ways.

Torchwood will be filming at . . .
Other than a mention of some snogging going on in a scene, I haven't heard any reports from the past week of production yet. But hey, there is at least one kiss every week on Doctor Who these days, so I could have guessed that would be somewhere in Torchwood. If you have been able to get some photos or news from locations in Cardiff please don't hog it all to yourself. Without the goods, I will just have to make up some crackpot theories and then claim they are coming from a reliable source. I have quite a vivid imagination you know.
I had posted some vague details about where Torchwood will be filming over the next few days here earlier, but the BBC has asked me to quit doing that so I have removed them. I must say I'm a bit torn, unless fans are really slowing things down, I don't see the harm in it. However, I don't want to piss off the BBC either as I'm still hoping for that cameo on the show! I know the Beeb needs to cover their interests. So readers, feel free to voice your opinion on what we should do in the comments below.

The Music Man
Barrowman Online user Fitch has recently created a rather exciting mock theme tune for Torchwood. Keeping with the anagram theme of Torchwood (re-arrange the letters and you get the name of the parent show Doctor Who) Fitch has used the existing Doctor Who theme, and put his own unique twist on the sounds to create his Torchwood theme.

As ever, I have to stess that this isn't the real theme tune. When Torchwood eventually airs in October, it'll use a theme tune no doubt written by Murray Gold. The calm after the storm
After the recent big Torchwood news things have slowed down quite a bit again. Pre-production for the spinoff is underway, but as you can imagine a lot of the crew is probably working 16 hour days on getting Doctor Who season 28 out on time.

You probably noticed that we put one of the recently-released publicity shots of Jack and Gwen on the side column of this page, you can download the high-resolution full size version of the hot couple yourself here at ShinyMedia. Dune at LiveJournal has already used the photo in a nice Torchwood wallpaper called Line of Defense. Dynamite job Dune, until the BBC gets a chance to put out their own Torchwood downloads, the job falls on our shoulders. I am working on a wallpaper called simply, "Excellent Bottom."

Torchwood jumps the shark
Now that the best days of Torchwood are clearly behind us, all of us fans will have to find something new. The show had a good run and we will always have fond memories of the groundbreaking program, but all good things must come to an end.

Ok yes, the above statement is a bit premature so lets just call this a brief hiatus. Because of the delay in the show's production, the daily dose of Torchwood you have come to expect here will be considerably more sporadic. For the next few months anyway I will only be posting as warranted by the news. After all, there are only so many ice dancing jokes one can make.
For those of you who are in tears now, there are a few other impressive Torchwood sites I would like to recommend to get you over the hump. The Institute is really coming into its own now with breaking news, multimedia downloads, screen caps and even fan fiction. TV.com now has a Torchwood section and forum coming to you straight from Cardiff. There are also all the same old standards I have previously mentioned. The one niche we are still patiently waiting for someone to fill is a Torchwood ringtones site.

The Dancing on Ice site still isn't ready as of tonight, but that should be the spot for updates and info on John's progress come Saturday. There will be phone numbers posted so viewers can vote for their favorites. Right now all they have up at the official site is the logo of the show's sponsor, a frozen pizza.
By the way, do they deliver pizza in England yet? I remember it was still a foreign concept when I lived there 15 years ago. Believe me, it would be much nicer for the family to gather around the TV and watch this little reality ice show while eating a nice tasty pizza pie pulled from a brick oven rather than from the microwave.

April in Cardiff
The wait for 2006 is over. However, the wait for Torchwood is just starting. John Barrowman said on the BBC 1's New Year's Eve coverage that filming for the program will begin in April, with the first broadcast in the Fall.

Shaken not stirred
Well it looks like Torchwood and the new James Bond movie Casino Royale are having tryouts in the same place. Back when Charlotte Church was rumored to be on the show, there were odds on her as a potential Bond girl. Rachel Stevens, the most recent Gwen wannabe has also been connected with the juicy role in the 21st Bond film. Plus there is Billie Piper, you know the girl from that other show Russell T Davies works on, she has reportedly scored an audition for the role of Vesper Lynd.

The producers of Casino Royale, and of Torchwood for that matter, seem to be in no hurry to end the speculation of who their respective female leads will be. Once they announce that, what the hell else are people going to talk about.
Not suprisingly, there have been several actors who have crossed between Doctor Who and the James Bond films before. Long before he was the Master, Anthony Ainley was an extra in You Only Live Twice. And the Black Guardian himself, Valentine Dyall was in the first version of Casino Royale as none other than Vesper Lynd's assistant.
Honor Blackman, played Proffessor Lasky in WHO's season 23 story Terror of the Vervoids. But Blackman is better known for portraying a certain Bond girl in Goldfinger with one of the most memorable names in the history of cinema. So whatever lucky actress ends up with the new role of Vesper, she will undoubtedly be dissapointed that she didn't get a better Bond girl name such as the eternal Pussy Galore!

It's Torchwood's Birthday!
Break out the champagne, today marks the 42nd anniversary of the first broadcast of Torchwood! That makes it the longest running Doctor Who spinoff ever. Here's to another 42 years with Captain Jack . . . Oh wait my mistake, there has been some sort of a mix-up. It has been just 42 days (or so) since the show was first announced by BBC3.

In honor of this great anniversary I am going to take my first day off from this blog. Sorry, but unless RTD announces that Tom Baker will be guest starring on the show, or some other such big news, I will be taking the Thanksgiving weekend off from Torchwood.TV.
Before I head off to pig out with family, I do want to congratulate Doctor Who on birthday 42 today. That is no small achievement, I doubt that when they dreamed it up in 1963 they could have predicted that it would be the show to watch on Korean Television in 2005. The Ninth and Tenth Doctors were both born since the show first went on the air.
A certain former WHO script editor made the number 42 famous somewhere or another, and in honor of this ultimate anniversary you can hear Shada, one of his old WHO scripts, brought back to life on the radio in a few weeks.
Torchwood has yet to meet the same test of time as Doctor Who, but then what show has? Don't forget to check back into this blog again sometime around August 2048 when I will be able to save some time by recycling this post.

Also, I would like to apologize for being guilty of doing something which I hate when I see others engaging in. Which is, talking negatively about something you don't know anything about. Since my post mentioning Pantos last week, I have done some more research and heard from a few folks who have given me a better idea of what they are. Sorry, but I had just assumed that they were like the "holiday specials" we get here in the States, which are complete insipid drivel.
While I won't promise I won't ever offend anybody here at Torchwood.TV, I always welcome all feedback and comments to make this the best Torchwood site around.

Torchwood Opening Title Sequence
Some clever artist has already edited together many of Captain Jack's scenes from season 27 of Doctor Who into a potential opening title sequence for Torchwood. It is set to the theme song from MacGyver (a show Terry Nation wrote for) and available for download at the Delta Wave Site (Pg 2). There are several great homemade music videos presented on those pages featuring John Barrowman and the rest of the season 27 cast. Delta Wave also started up a new Torchwood forum this week.
Opening title sequences and theme songs on TV shows are a dying breed, so it is not even certain if Torchwood will have one. But the opening still serves a purpose in setting the mood and can make or break a show. The horrible K-9 and Company theme was perhaps what led to that show's downfall. If you have any musical talent, get started this weekend on your own ideas. The BBC has a fun flash app for tinkering around with the Doctor Who theme here. The only song for the new show I could come up with so far is the Batman TV theme, with the chorus repeating "Torchwood" instead.

The Lotus Position
Charlotte Church seems to be the only party involved in Torchwood who ever makes the papers these days. The tabloids report that she is currently constructing a "Kama Sutra" style bedroom for her new house in Cardiff. She will obviously be doing lots of first-hand research for her new book in her specially constructed king-size wooden bed and perhaps will gain some insight into her role in Torchwood on those silk sheets as well.

I'm sure she knew at the time that her comments against him would be the quickest way to get into my good graces. Oh yeah? Well you have a fat head!
You know it has to be a slow day when I am writing a post about a story like this. (Come on, you have to expect a slow news day regarding a show that is still 9 months from premiering. Well I have committed to daily posts about Torchwood and I'm sticking with it damnit!) This just over the wires, Charlotte Church has a fat head! Well that's according to Cheryl Tweedy and we all know she is an expert about such things.

In other news regarding CC, She is listed at 150 to 1 odds to be the next Bond Girl. While granted she is a bit of a longshot, she fairs a lot better than Abi Titmuss who is currently at 250 to 1 odds and suprisingly Billie Piper is nowhere to be seen! Personally I think the smart money is on Scarlett Johannson at 25 to 1. And if placing a bet on that weren't pathetic enough you can also put money down on whether of not Church will get married to Gavin. I wonder what the odds are that Charlotte will actually be in Torchwood, as that news still has yet to be officially confirmed.
