Preview: Episode Thirteen

What's it called?

"Exit Wounds"

Who's it credited to?

Chris Chibnall, writer ("Kiss Kiss, Bang Bang", "Fragments") and Ashley Way, director ("End of Days", "Reset")

What do we know?

Captain John Hart is back - and he's brought somebody with him! It's time for revenge, amid some very uncomfortable rumours, and not everybody will live to tell the tale...

Major guest stars?

Kai Owen plays "Rhys", James Marsters is "Captain John Hart" and Lachlan Nieboer appears as Jack's brother, "Gray".

Rest of the best

Paul Marc Davis ("Cowled Leader"), Golda Rosheuvel ("Dr. Angela Connolly"), Syreeta Kumar ("Nira Docherty"), Cornelius Macarthy ("Charles Gaskell") and Paul Kasey ("Weevils").

Surprise me, spoiler boy

The episode ends with team Torchwood (whoever survives...) sat looking out over Cardiff Bay.

Reviewing the reviews

Fantastic! A real rollercoaster ride according to sources like DigitalSpy, the Radio Times and members of the Doctor Who Forum who's seen previews of the episode.

When's it on?

Tonight on BBC Two, from 9pm. It's repeated next Tuesday, at 7 o'clock.

What about America?

"Exit Wounds" airs on BBC America Saturday 19th April @ 9pm. The BBC America schedule can be found here. The episode will also be available in glorious High Definition - on HD-Net - from May 5th.

Look to the future...

A special radio episode airs on BBC Radio 4 sometime over the next couple of months. Then, if you really wanna know [HIGHLIGHT] Captain Jack Harkness returns to the world of 'Doctor Who' for the fourth series finale, "Journey's End", in June. Torchwood is *expected* to return for a new series of adventures in 2009.

Excitement level?

****1/2 - I loved Marsters' first appearence as Hart earlier on in the series run - he brings a lot of fun, and humour to the show. Aside from this... this is where it's all been leading. Gray! Owen's deadalive! John Hart! Owen & Tosh! Jack & Ianto! Last year's finale "End of Days" wasn't great, but surely this'll go a long way to redeem things.

And that's all folks! Series two is done and dusted; but it's been fun, yeah?

Till next year...

Oh !@#$%$. Haven't seen the episode yet but the Tosh & Owen rumors were #3 on my List of Rumors I Hope Don't Come True.

Of course TW becoming family friendly and Captain Jack leaving are my #2 and #1, respectivly.

Knowing I'll be seeing the last of my least favorite characters makes me really excited abut seeing this episode... in three weeks. Arrggg!

Thanks for all the info and commentary thru out the season.

Space pig. Heh.

Yeah, that was a nice bit, explaining why Tosh was on the scene during the space pig thing.

Really hope we'll be getting plenty of Barrowman next series, otherwise the show will not be the same.

It's gonna be a long wait.

Fantastic finale! I'll miss Tosh & Owen, but they had a really amazing exit. The Doctor Who bits were a treat. Owen joined Torchwood in 2005, and Tosh said that the space pig thing happened in his 2nd week, which was in 2006 (though it aired in 2005) - but that's a slight flaw that can be overlooked. I think it would have been better if Jack had killed his brother... But still a fantastic finale that served the 2nd series well.

that was a truly breathing taking episode it was amazing. but it was extremely emotional and i was crying my eyes out. doomsday was nothing compared to that

It was a brilliant explosive, tender (with the death scenes)episode. A lovely scene at the end with the three of them left. How will we survive until there is a new series.

It Was Absolutely AMAZING! Loved It.. Although Cried For Like 10 Minutes When Owen And Tosh Died :(
Can't Wait For Doctor Who Starting Today..Means I Won't Be Too Deprived

i saw torchwood declassified after and burn gorman said that the viewer only suspects that owen was in the room when the radiation filled it. he said that he could have droopped down into the sewer or something to escape it. i think series 3 will see the return of owen but maybe not tosh...

I can't speak...I am so shocked and I don't think I will ever get over the deaths of Owen and Tosh. The acting from everyone was BRILLIANT and I admit, I did cry buckets during this episode! Totally devestating, tragic and the saddest peice of television ever...competing closely with 'Doomsday'! I'm not sure which episode was sadder!

It was a truly breathtaking episode. i thought the story was remarkable and the acting was top class. The ending shamefully had me crying like a 2 year old child but as this is torchwood i do not care. Owen has progressed as my favourite character from series 2 and tosh has become a fantastic character to watch. Well done to burn and naoki on that death scene for brilliant acting. 5/5 my favourite episode so far.

AAAAAAHHHH! Just... AAAAAHHHH!

;_;

Nuuuuur. Amazing, brilliant episode. But nooooo!

Gawd. How can the show even go ON without those two?

There is a possibility that Owen still lives, but not Tosh. Not Tosh. ;_;

The bit were Gray buries Jack alike, 2000 years!!!! thats what nightmares are made of!!! Death does not mean the end in the Torchwood world, we will see them again?

Anonymous said...

Nahh, Owen is definately dead I think.
Because of the radiation his body will have decomposed.
I'm sure Tosh told him that would happen anyway.
Bad to lose them though.

wow. what an explosive episode. really. sad to see tosh go but glad it's finally the end for owen, at least i hope so. some fresh faces can't hurt the show, can it? hope there will be a season 3!

The actor playing Gray is such a bad actor he makes Barrowman look like Daniel Day Lewis. So there are some benefits to speed casting after all...

Owen the monkey is dead and so is Toshiko the cupid doll.
I like Captain John, he should bite Harkness and Doctor Who and then google it.

The ending was well done. If they don't make TW family friendly, I will watch season 3. Otherwise...I am not so sure. Tosh was so cute in her goodbye video, it makes me miss her already.

Fascinating that so many people like to be made miserable. Um. I'm old fashioned. In a real drama, a book - a film - or a tv series of real dimensions, no problem. But - Torchwood ?

For me it is an old fashioned close format series - 5 characters at the heart - no death of main characters. I could well be wrong - but in the past killing off even one character or change of lead has killed even very strong series.

For me - no Captain Jack, no watching. I found the episode distasteful, because of the deaths. They had a chance to leave us with an inspiring episode, and left us with misery.

But this is what you all like now ? I feel ancient.

Pat.

I agree with that comment from Pat
why change a winner, perhaps they are going on to pantomine!

Anonymous said...

Total agreement with Pat and Lyn. This episode was a complete downer that has diminished my enthusiasm for watching the third series.

I'm waiting for Davies to write an episode where all of this misery turns out to be one of Bilis's machinations (why wasn't Bilis mentioned this season?!).

Maybe they could go back in time and save Tosh and Owen? It would be possible because they didn't accomplish anything through their death and there was no one around still alive when they died. Not like a current living person would cross paths with there past. Think about it, it would work.

But also you can kill Tosh and Owen off because they don't really have a life out side of TW so there are no loose ends to tie up.
