Dalek Artist + Moffat?

Another name recently associated with Torchwood is concept designer Matt Savage. Like many others, he moved across the hall after finishing work on Doctor Who. He is a newcomer to the industry. Working on WHO with designer Ed Thomas has been his first TV gig. Prior to that he was an art department assistant on the films Batman Begins and Thunderbirds. (Let's try and not hold the latter film against him)

Savage's artistic talents have already been recognised with awards and he looks to be yet another eager bright young star who will put his all into the Torchwood experience. A gallery of his work is viewable online at his personal site. You can closely examine his drawings of Captain Jack's sonic blaster and Chula ship.

If you have the time, watch a 3 minute video clip of him discussing redesigning the Daleks last year here. Can you believe he wanted to replace the infamous Dalek plunger with a claw? Thank goodness RTD and other more sensible members of the production were able to put the youngster in his place on that day.

Update - Be sure to check out the comments on this post. Our man on the inside says that Steven Moffat will be writing one story for season one of Torchwood!

The Moffat Show

First he wrote the hilarious Doctor Who satire Curse of Fatal Death, then he penned one of the scariest and most highly-regarded stories in the history of the show, The Empty Child/The Doctor Dances, what will Steven Moffat do for an encore? Write for Torchwood, we hope.

Moffat has taken full credit for creating Captain Jack so what better fit for the new show? He is interviewed in the latest issue of Doctor Who Magazine which hits the newsstands thursday and the advance word is that in addition to the story he wrote for the forthcoming season of WHO he is also doing a story for season 29.

Well obviously Moffat is quite in demand and a very busy guy. He is also working on a new BBC production of Dr Jeckyll and Mr. Hyde. But one just has to look at some of the dialogue he wrote for Coupling to see that Torchwood would benefit from his brilliant wit.
You know, I have never understood the male obsession with lesbianism - a whole area of sex with nothing for them to do . . . Just answered my own question, haven't I?

Time to invest in a dalek-proof sofa

The only things that ever managed to get behind the sofa at my house were the remote control, coins and keys. When watching Doctor Who as a youngster I can't remember ever taking the effort to move the end tables, slide the sofa away from the wall, and then somehow squeeze in behind it whenever something scary popped up. Must be a British thing.

So there is actually a wee bit of news to go with this post. This interview today in The Sunday Mail with Doctor Who writer Steven Moffat is primarily about how season 28 will be even more terrifying than the last. But Moffat also takes credit for Captain Jack in the article. Moffat wrote the two-part story that introduced Jack Harkness last year and he said Russell T. Davies had nothing to do with creating the character. The Scottish Moffat is slated to write a few episodes for season 28 of Doctor Who but there has been no announcement yet that he is on board for Torchwood.

Steven's quote from the article about John Barrowman's character sums up the Torchwood spirit nicely, "There's something very believable and right about a James Bond character who will literally shag anything . . . if a Dalek's got a short enough skirt!"
