A Picture Paints So Much More Than A 1000 Words

Continuing our "Army of Ghosts" theme this week, the BBC have released a Torchwood based gallery on their Doctor Who site. All the images can be found here. Enjoy!

A POSSIBLE 'TORCHWOOD' SERIES LOGO?

The Rise Of Torchwood!

AND SO IT BEGINS...

Yessssssssssssssssssssssssssssss!

I think that sums up how I'm feeling right now, because, at the conclusion of "Fear Her", the eleventh episode of Doctror Who, I've just seen a one minute preview of "Army of Ghosts", and what I've seen couldn't possibly be better. Rose's finale. Cybermen. Oh, and Torchwood too. Because next week the cat's out of the bag (instead of the cat being in the box, as was the case in "Fear Her"!).

Besides the preview, the BBC site has the latest TARDISODE online - and it's totally dedicated to the Torchwood Institute! You can check it out here. For those of you who have already seen it, I have one question: The folk at Torchwood don't seem very nice, do they?!?

Anyway, next week's Doctor Who Confidental goes behind the scenes of filming on Torchwood season one, and it explores what the series is, and how different it will be compared to Doctor Who. So, expect a few clips from the series...and maybe even a chat with John and company too! At last, this is your first opportunity to see Torchwood in depth! Result!!!

So, a brilliant week ahead for all us fans, because at long, long last, after months of waiting, everything's coming together nicely.

Brace yourselves.

The rise of Torchwood has started.

Doomsday - Torchwood Style

In recent weeks news on Torchwood has kinda dried up a little bit. The beeb are clearly holding onto information for the time being. So, with little actual Torchwood news, I'll take the opportunity to talk about Doctor Who for a change. Specifically, the end of series two-parter "Army of Ghosts" and "Doomsday".

Below are quite a few spoilers regarding these episodes, so DO NOT READ IF YOU DON'T WANT TO BE SPOILED!!!

These two episodes pick up on the Torchwood thread that's been running through Doctor Who series two, and in them, Torchwood makes it's first screen appearence.

As reported last week, the BBC Press Office have released a short statement about "Army of Ghosts": 'The human race rejoices as the ghosts of loved ones return home in the latest adventure from the nation's favourite time traveller. But as the Doctor, Rose and Jackie investigate the Torchwood Tower, the whole of modern-day Earth threatens to fall to an almighty invasion force.' The "Doomsday" synopsis is due from www.bbc.co.uk/pressoffice tomorrow.

The latest issue of Doctor Who Mafazine says this about the double episodes:'Earth is awash with phantoms. They're everywhere! But are they really from beyond the grave? In the heart of London, a top secret institute has captured its most-wanted extraterrestrial, but its problems lie closer to home. Deep in the depths of Torchwood is a Sphere that doesn't exist - it weighs nothing, it doesn't age, it emits no heat. And yet it's there. You can see it. And it makes you want to run and hide. Like it's forbidden. This time, even the Doctor is scared..."

SFX's website has a preview of "Army of Ghosts"...and even a (real small) picture of inside the Torchwood Institute (London branch I'm afraid). You can read the spoiler-lite preview here.

There are rumours flying around the net that immediately after the broadcast of "Doomsday" the BBC are going to show a one minute preview of Torchwood season one (much like they did at the conclusion of "The Christmas Invasion" for Doctor Who season two). Whether or not this information is true is yet to be seen...but fingers crossed!

Also, imdb are so very keen to tell us all that Captain Jack appears in these two episodes. Let me say this right now: he's not. John Barrowman's own webmaster has confirmed the story as untrue. Sorry guys, you're going to have to wait a little longer for old Jack to return!

Those Damn Greeks!

As predicted, this month's Doctor Who Magazine (issue 371) reveals some interesting Torchwood news (so, at last, we've some proper news! We've been waiting long enough now!).

THE SATAN PIT ARRIVES AT TORCHWOOD HQ

According to the magazine, the start of June saw the completion of block one of filming on the series. Block one is expected to contain two episodes: episode one ("Flotsam and Jetsam" by Russell T Davies) and episode two (by Chris Chibnall). Post-production work has started on these episodes now.

Block two then moves before the camera. This schedule block consists of two episodes, both directed by Colin Teague. Episode three is written by Helen Raynor and named "The Ghost Machine". Episode eight is now confirmed as being written by Toby Whithouse, and has the strange name "Greeks Bearing Gifts". Insert your own 'that one features a greek Torchwood' rumours here.

Pre-production on block three has already started (with a likely Late-June/Early July filming date). This block consists of two further episodes, and is to be directed by James Strong, the director of "The Impossible Planet" / "The Satan Pit" episodes from season two of Doctor Who. Russell T Davies seemingly can't wait to see how "James tackles modern day Earth!". And neither can we.

By the end of block three, six complete episodes will now be in the can for Torchwood, and block three should conclude filming mid-July. Which raises a question: how can John Barrowman be filming blocks four, five and six of Torchwood from Mid-July onwards, when he's expected to start filming talent show "Maria" around the same time? A case of being in two places at one time? Hmm...

In related news, the current issue of Doctor Who Adventures magazine (issue six) features a comic strip by Torchwood scribe Si Spencer. The magazine, for anybody interested, is on sale until early next week.
