Dead Ringers

They say that mockery is the greatest form of flattery; a great sign for Torchwood then, since last night it featured on BBC 2's "Dead Ringers" - a show where impressionists (including Whovian Jon Culshaw) basically rip to pieces the most popular shows currently broadcasting on British (or international, in Lost's case) television.

Last night saw the show's impressionists turn their attention to Torchwood, with a couple of highly amusing sketches showing the random-ness of Torchwood; with the cast popping up left right and centre. There was also a 'hilarious' account of how none of the Torchwood team seem to have any real motivations.

Later on we saw their Captain Jack kiss a police officer for no good reason; which isn't exactly a million miles away from what the 'real' Captain Jack would do!

Lets be honest though; the comedy of Dead Ringers is a little hit and miss at times, and last night's show was no exception. As soon as it goes online, we'll add a link here on TW.tv for you faithful Woodies across the land to view.

Erm, is it just me or is a quote from this blog currently on the front page of BBC Two's homepage?

I saw the online promo clip of this a few weeks ago. Thought it wasn't far off target.

Apparently we are quoted on the BBC2 site! I guess they are on speaking terms with us again. For those who just came from the Beeb's site, welcome! Hope you make a habit of it.

Interested to read your opening comment that mockery is the greatest form of flattery.

Sure, yes it is. But in this case I reckon that mockery can also be quite an insult too. Just depends on the audience who's assessing it.

Dead Ringers this series has been a good deal different from past series. Edgy at times and, bearing in mind some of the sacred cows it has attacked, actually pushing things quite a bit.

Seeing Torchwood the subject of their jibes was deeply satisfying. The fact that they managed to ridicule many elements which many people have said surrepticiously for a long time now all the more satisfying.

Did you see Charlie Brooker's assessment of Torchwood on his Screenwipe show? Now .. i challenge anyone to describe that as flattering mockery.

Right, that Dead Ringers thing was really random. Funny, but random, even though they did seem to diss Torchwood a lot in it.

Burn Gorman on Eastenders was so good! I don't usually watch it but when the actor of one of my favourite characters in Torchwood is on there, hey, I can't resist. They shouldn't have killed him.

Captain Jack Is So Wrong in Dead Ringers! He is so much more charismatic and classy than the way Jon Calshaw portrays him! Still enjoyed it though :P
