Sir Russell

Torchwood's creator Russell T. Davies must certainly be enjoying his status as a media darling these days. In the 2005 news wrapups for entertainment RTD has been frequently honored for bringing back Doctor Who. The praise for Russell is coming from every corner with perhaps the one exception of trombonists.

The Stage Online called him the number one mover and shaker in the world of theatre and light entertainment for the year. (He was snubbed in the heavy entertainment category!) The Guardian listed him among the growing number of gays who are shaping Britain last month. RTD had an amazing 2005, earlier in the year he was named the 14th most powerful person in UK media and awarded an honorary fellowship from Swansea Institute.

Mind you Russell still hasn't gotten his knighthood, but bare in mind that all this recognition has come prior to the production of Torchwood. One can only imagine what's in store for RTD once his new baby is broadcast.

However that said, on a serious note I can not currently join the RTD love fest if this recent report that Derek Acorah will be on the new season of Doctor Who is acurate. Maybe Russell didn't have a say in it, but to whoever did, there is simply no place on WHO for scam artists. Even if it is a self-depricating cameo, it will give publicity to somebody who preys on people's misery instead of the WHO standard of publicity for critical thinking.

Torchwood on Ice!

If your like me, you are probably having a hard time waiting until the Winter Olympics in February for your Ice Dancing fix. Well have no fear, starting on Saturday, January 14th on ITV in the UK you can watch the celebrity reality show Dancing on Ice. Thrill to the site of not one, but two Doctor Who companions showing their blade work on the ice.

Participating in the show and bound to win will be Captain Jack himself, John Barrowman. Also lacing up for the competition will be Bonnie Langford, who played Melanie Bush nearly 20 years ago on WHO.

I am really trying my hardest to keep an open mind on this one folks, I have even read the Wikipedia article on Ice Dancing so I will be able to pick up on all the subtleties. Perhaps JB is taking part in the show to learn a new skill and/or do a little research for a future episode set on an ice world.

So the question is, what can't JB do? I look forward to seeing a singing, dancing, skating Captain Jack Harkness on the next spinoff: The Torchwood Variety Hour!

The casting couch

During pre-production of a show, the casting director is already doing the toughest part of his/her job. On Torchwood, the man holding that job is Andy Pryor. He could be up to his neck in Gwens as we speak.

Pryor is also the casting director on Doctor Who and is the guy who notified John Barrowman two summers ago that there was a perfect part for him in the revival of the show. He is casting director for the new Life on Mars drama as well which premiers later this month on BBC1, a show that also shares writer Chris Chibnall with Torchwood.

This brief post seems to already be longer than anything already on the web about Andy Pryor. Which is suprising since he has had his fingers in many high-profile projects including the films Trainspotting, Long Time Dead and Beautiful Thing, and the TV shows The Long Firm, Cutting It and Linda Green.

For all you thespians out there, his contact information is up online. If you think you have what it takes to be on Torchwood don't hesitate to send in your 8 by 10 to Andy. If you happen to be reading this Mr. Pryor, you wouldn't have a tiny little part for me on Torchwood would you? Perhaps as a reward for drumming up so much interest in the show here on my site. I'll play anything of course, even the guy who cleans the Torchwood Institute's alien-tech toilets.

You know I'm really wired

Like many of you, one of my New Year's resolutions is that I need to spend more time talking about the movie Shark Attack 3: Megalodon.I have only written one post so far on this memorable 2002 film starring John Barrowman as beach patrolman Ben Carpenter. SA3 is a film that will not die. It even has it's own active fan club.

For more information on SA3, Sharks on Film recounts in detail all of the shark attacks and victims in the movie chronologically. If you haven't heard JB's famous "line" in the film, at this site you can hear his brilliant pickup line in a perpetual loop. Listening to it for more than an hour may be dangerous to your health however. You might become convinced this line will work and try it out in the real world.

In more serious news, there is a new budding site that deserves a shoutout called The Innuendo Squad. It is an image site dedicated to Captain Jack Harkness in all his glory.

April in Cardiff

The wait for 2006 is over. However, the wait for Torchwood is just starting. John Barrowman said on the BBC 1's New Year's Eve coverage that filming for the program will begin in April, with the first broadcast in the Fall.

These are of course roughly the dates we had been expecting, but it obviously would have been nice if he had revealed that they will be ready to shoot in just a few weeks! So I hope your New Year's resolution was to have more patience. Your going to need it, if your planning on reading through all the filler on this page for the next few months.
